Few Manhattanites are likely to have heard about 42; after all, itÂ’s in White Plains. But the food, by chef Anthony Goncalves, is refined and assertive in a way that many high-end Manhattan restaurants arenÂ’t, and uses deluxe ingredients (foie gras, Amish veal, prime beef) in much more artful ways than you might expect in this area code. The room, with its high ceilings and modernist chandeliers, is large and lavish, if a little bare. Not so the private dining room, which features its own swimming pool.
